Flop’s Rescue Story:  Making A Difference in Your Community

Island resident rescues Cozumel dog…

Here is a story of a rescue carried out by Cozumel resident Cary Butler. When Flop arrived on Cary’s doorstep he was either lost or dumped. Having dogs his entire life prior to moving to the island, Cary recognized something special in Flop  (short for Floppy…see photo). He fed Flop and cared for him meanwhile posting on social media in an attempt to find his owners.

After a couple of weeks Cary contacted the Humane Society of Cozumel Island. We explained to Cary the costs and difficulty of finding homes for the dogs we receive. This rescuer immediately understood the immense economical pressure the HSCI is under and committed to covering the financial costs of Flops medical care in return for our help in finding a suitable home for Flop. Cary paid for the exams and testing of heart worm, distemper, parvo, earlichia, and anaplasmosis, He covered the cost of Flops neutering and purchased the medications Flop needed to be adoption ready. We want to thank Cary for seeing this rescue through from start to finish.

We understand the good intentions of the community by wanting to help the street dogs of the island. However, bringing them to our facility, leaving them and calling it a rescue is NOT a rescue when you burden the HSCI with covering the cost.

In our eyes Cary is a hero. He made a commitment to Flop, both financial and material to see him in a loving home. The Humane Society of Cozumel thanks you Cary Butler. ❤

Here is Flop’s bio as written by Cary….

FLOP (short for Floppy because one ear does not always stand straight up when he is curious or listening to the world). He is believed to be about 1.5 years old (  April 2017). He is very gentel, intelligent, intuitive, and learns commands quickly . He is eager to please and seems very proud when he behaves well, with a wag of the tail, and a smile while waiting for the pat of approval.

He is very happy being inside or out.. good on a leash or will stay close to you without. Oh, he loves a ride in the car ! I am pretty sure that a previous owner or caretaker loved him because, after I gave Flop his first bath, he did not hesitate to jump up on my bed for some attention. I showed him that it is not acceptable behavior (for me, anyway) and he happily curled up at the foot of the bed, slept through the night and waited until I woke before asking me to

go outside for “business”.

Flop weighs about 50 pounds, has a beautiful shiny black coat with a white chest and speckled paws and clean white teeth. Neutered..all shots.. disease free. I would keep him, but no pets are permitted in my rented apartment.

Oh, any name that you like for him is fine. He is a “quick study”. He just needs to give love to you. For more information on Flop or to apply to add him to your family, please contact Cary Butler

. . tiene todas sus vacunas . . . no padece enfermedad aluna.
