Right now Rancho Universo is going through some very hard times. The Ranch had a lot of water damage after the heavy rains! We were totally flooded, lots of trees fell down, and the stables – being palapa suffered the most. Some of the main beams got damaged and needless to say the palapa roof was destroyed. While we re-build, we’re not able to provide as much of our therapy services, animal rescue, and take care of our horses veterinary needs. What we desperately need now is to rebuild the stable and provide a safe and dry place for the horses, as well as the constant need for feed for our horses.
At Rancho Universo we rescue abandoned, neglected and abused horses (although we also have our fair share of cats and dogs) we retrain them and rehabilitate them and they in turn help heal special children. Horses have been known to be healing since the Ancient Greeks! Horses were used to provide healing to warriors after battle…in medieval times they were used to treat gout and back problems. Now Horse Therapy is used for an array of mental, physical and emotional problems, from depression to cerebral palsy, as well as health debilitating bulimia and anorexia, to teaching people to work as a team and get balanced. Una ex yanqui de Connecticut quien llama hogar a Cozumel desde hace más de 15 años. Laura escapó al Caribe hace años, desplazándose de una isla a otra dando clases de BUCEO. Se dedicó a perder el tiempo en Jamaica y finalmente se detuvo en Cozumel para pasar unas vacaciones de 2 semanas que aún no terminan. Convenciendo a sus padres que pagaran una elegante universidad privada, obtuvo su título en Periodismo y Laura crea semanalmente Cozumel 4You, medios sociales y artículos promocionales sobre la Isla y también es moderadora en el grupo Cozumel 4 You en Facebook que actualmente cuenta con 25,000 miembros. Fabián, s umuy tolerante marido, desde hace mucho tiempo se resignó a no tener vida privada, pues se ha visto implicado en los diversos proyectos y planes que urde Laura. Son orgullosos padres de diversos perros y gatos rescatados. Mientras contempla su paso a través de la vida en el Caribe mexicano,Laura continúa siendo la pesadilla en la existencia de su muy tradicional suegra mexicana.
