Last week, the Humane Society of Cozumel Island hosted another massive spay and neuter campaign.  Invited veterinarians from Cancun, Merida, Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos assisted along with 60 hard working volunteers, and our resident vets.

Local restaurants Diez con Cinco, Blue Angel, Guidos, Le Chef, La Cocay, Burritos Gorditos, Rolandis, Pancho’s Backyard, Tito Cocinerito, Nonna Mia, Starbucks, Panificadora Cozumel and Rock’n Java all donated breakfast, lunches and snacks that were very appreciated! El Encanto, Villas Turquesa generously donated accommodations.

We held the campaign from Thursday, September 21 – Saturday, September 23rd.

Here are the totals that our  amazing group was able to achieve:

Thursday, September 21: 116 dogs. 26 cats. 142 animals.

Friday, September 22: 125 dogs. 32 cats. 157 animals.

Saturday September 23: 159 dogs. 116 cats. total: 275 animals RECORD OF A DAY.

In total: 574 animals, of which 400 were dogs and 174 were cats.

All in all it was a total success. Thanks to everyone – especially the people who brought their pets in for a no-cost procedure.  Successful events like these are the work of a village – it takes a lot of hands to pull this off.   We need supplies, lodging for our volunteer vets, food and drinks for hungry volunteers, transporters, cleaning services and more.

We’re always looking for more people to get involved – not only with these great campaigns but as kennel sponsors, monthly donors, puppy washers, fundraiser organizers and more.  If you’d like to make a donation to the Humane Society of Cozumel Island just go to their web site
