“Ironkids Cozumel 2014” & ITU Triathlon World Cup This Weekend

Cozumel will host two triathlon events this weekend.  The first edition of “Ironkids Cozumel 2014” will take place this Saturday at Chankanaab Park, starting at 11:30 am.   Although this is the first time Mexico will host an ‘Ironkids” event, there are more than 50 locations world-wide, including:  South Africa,  New Zealand, Australia,  and Japan, hosting similar events. The “Ironkids” circuit  has been especially created for children, where they adhere to the basic rules of the sport, but also have an entertaining time while learning about the importance of physical activity.

Additionally, the ITU Triathlon World Cup will also take place on October 4th and 5th.  This particular competition is divided into 2 divisions: Triathlon Sprint and Triathlon Olympic.   The Sprint category is a 750 M swim, a 20 KM cycle and a 5K run.  The Olympic level os a 1.5 KM swim, a 40 KM cycle and  a 10K run.  The Sprint category will take place on Saturday morning, and will be followed by the “Ironkids” event.  The Olympic category will take place on Sunday morning.

According to Municipal traffic authorities the older coastal road will close starting at 5 am on Saturday morning from Punta Sur to Caleta.  On Sunday morning road closures will be similar to the 70.3 Metlife Ironman which took place last month.
