When lobster season re-opens on July 1st, 2018 members of the Cozumel Fishermen’s Cooperative    will begin an entire new area of production:  lobsters caught in Cozumel waters will now be shipped live to both Canada and Hong Kong.

A Canadian investor has been working closely with the Cooperative to create the necessary infrastructure.  Live lobsters will be stored in pools until they can be shipped overseas a mere 32 hours after their capture.  The President of the Cooperative stated that the lobsters will remain at a consistent 14C throughout their capture and transport so that they will arrive in a healthy state at their new destination.

Open season for for Panulirus argus, also known as the Caribbean spiny lobster will come to end on the last day in February, 2019, at which point their breeding season will ensue.
