The northern lagoon and mangrove areas of Cozumel have increasingly become a haven for sportfishing, specifically fly fishing.  Currently there are approximately 25 fly fisherman guides, working within what is a recently designated nature reserve.  A representative of the fly fishing guides, Gildardo Catzin Vázquez , has decreed their commitment to  being environmentally responsible through the “catch and release’ method of  fishing.  Since fly fishing is becoming popular on the island, it’s an important step in creating a self-sustaining industry.
