Cozumel Carnaval 2015 Update: Parades Start this Weekend

Cozumel Carnaval 2015 is already off to a great start.  Last weekend, most of the Royal Court was voted in.  This year’s King & Queen are Ana Pau and Gabriel.  The King & Queen of Alegria are Yovana and Jonathan, and the King & Queen of Fantasy are Valery and Alonzo.  Just because these positions are filled doesn’t mean the competition has ended.  Still competing are Juvenile King & Queen, Infantile King & Queen, Sexual Diversity Cozumel is ready for the 2015 Carnaval Parades, which will take place starting this weekend on Saturday February 14, Sunday February 15, and on Tuesday February 17.  Cozumel’s downtown waterfront, or malecon, has been painted and decorated with whimsical tropical birds in accordance with this year’s theme.  The parade route starts at the Palacio Municipal down one side of the waterfront, turns at SEDENA and laps around the other side.  The official judges station is located on the Esplanade.  Municipal organizers are gearing up for a big event this year, since nearly 40 floats are expected to participate. Last year’s parade featured 37.

The official schedule of events can be found here. Please also keep in mind that several streets will be closed to traffic, and plan accordingly. This is one of the island’s biggest celebrations!  Please celebrate responsibly.
