Security Measures Increased on Cozumel Piers

Port Authority ensures safer piers on Federal routes…..

The Director of the Port Authority, APIQRoo, recently announced that in light of events, still under local and federal investigation, that internal security protocols have been increased on piers in both Playa del Carmen and Cozumel.  The “International Code for the Protection of Ships and Port Facilities” is now in effect, since the route falls under Federal jurisdiction.

In a recent press release, the Director announced that additional surveillance cameras will be installed as well as individuals to monitor and prohibit the introduction of dangerous substances onto either pier, and thus Cozumel as well.

While International Maritime Code has been applied to the cruise ship piers, for quite some time now, since those vessels are engaged in international travel, it will now also apply to the Cozumel Fiscal pier as well as Playa del Carmen.

As part of these new procedures, which are expected to be enacted very shortly, vessels will also now be inspected, in an effort to provide complete protection of passengers.
