Port Captain of Cozumel Resumes Duties

Cozumel has recently welcomed the return of Captain Angel Suarez Vallejos.  Captain Suarez V. resumed his duties as the official Port Captain for the island, after recovering from a heart attack.

The Cozumel Port Captain has the authority to close the port to watersports activities in bad weather.  All boats – including fishing, scuba, deep sea, snorkeling, and more – must return to port immediately when the port is closed.

It is not uncommon for the port to close before the bad weather arrives.  When the wind blows from the north or north-east, one can assume that bad weather, and possible port closings, are on their way.  Wind over 10 mph can also close the port.
