Editors Note:  For the next several weeks, we’re going to highlight Cozumel businesses that are really part of the island community.  Now that high season is over, it’s time to support Cozumel, by shopping local, assisting charities, hosting beach cleanups, working together or even offering discounts or local promotions.  If you’d like to nominate a business please reach out to laura@czm4you.com

Businesses that Recycle with Hazelo Hoy

The importance of recycling resides in the fact that once you do it, you become aware of your consumption.

When a business decides to consciously recycle, this is, with full knowledge of the waste it produces and what is suitable for recycling, it can stop most of it ending in the ocean or garbage dump. And they are an important part in the positive impact to our Island, as this philosophy can reach their employees and clients.

Some examples of recyclable items that are usually not considered by mist businesses and even the population are:

Cans (aluminum):  Beans, hot peppers, fruit, mushrooms, dog food, coffee, etc. used by many restaurants, coffee shops, etc.

Plastic:  Spices, cleaning products, syrups, buckets, etc.

Cardboard:  Cereal boxes, bears, crackers, packages, etc.

Glass:  Bottles of sauce, jelly, beers, liquor, water, face creams, juices, etc.

Paper:  receipts, brochures, magazines, newspaper, sales receipt, supermarket receipts, etc.

Batteries

Appliances:  blenders, computers, telephones, television sets, etc.

An important issue, which must be taken into consideration, is that all waste must be clean of organic materials in order to avoid polluting the rest of the waste.

Hazlo Hoy , a non-profit foundation, where our mission is to provide support collecting waste, at no additional cost, from businesses committed to the envirnonment.

Negocios que retribuyen en la Isla: Reciclaje

#SupportCozumel #ShopLocal #CozumelCommunity. . .

Laura Wilkinson is the Editor for Cozumel 4 You. An ex-Connecticut Yankee who has called Cozumel home for over 15 years, Laura ran away to the Caribbean years ago, bumped around the islands teaching SCUBA diving, lost some time in Jamaica, and finally stopped in Cozumel for a 2 week vacation that hasn’t ended yet. With a degree in Journalism from a fancy private college she convinced her parents to pay for, Laura writes, edits, and creates the weekly Cozumel 4 You news, promotional articles about the island, and her very own blog, which she finds hilarious. Her long suffering husband, the Fabster, has long since resigned himself to having zero private life, as he’s been involved in her various schemes and plots since his arrival. Proud parents to a variety of rescue dogs and cats, Laura continues to be the bane of her traditional Mexican mother-in-law’s existence, as she muses her way through life in the Mexican Caribbean.
