New Parking Regulations for Cozumel’s Downtown Waterfront

Last weekend the controversial parking meters in Cozumel’s downtown waterfront were finally removed.  Now that Cozumel’s “malecon,” is meter-free, the new regulations will have free parking from 6 pm – 9 am from the Airport Boulevard all the way to the Palacio Municipal.  The Department of Public Safety and Traffic will be patrolling these areas to ensure that the new parking laws are enforced.

The parking meters, a concession operated by Olympus S.A de C.V, approved under the previous municipal administration, were the subject of many complaints, including  poorly marked parking designations and malfunctioning meters – for both island residents and visitors.
