The cruise ship Enchantment of the Seas and it’s passengers were the first to return to Cozumel yesterday.  In a much needed celebration, headed by Juan Carlos Gonzalez, the island’s mayor, passengers disembarked to mariachis, music, dancers, folkloric shows and prizes. 
2,347 passengers and over 700 crew members arrived at the International Pier at 10 am on the Enchantment of the Seas. 

A celebration luncheon, hosted by Felix Gonzalez Canto, the Governor of the State of Quintana Roo also took place.  In attendance were the Mexican Secretary of Tourism, and the State Secretary of Tourism, the Mayor of Cozumel and other government officials.

El crucero Enchantment of the Seas, y sus pasajeros era el primer en volver a Cozumel ayer. En una celebración muy necesaria, dirigida por Juan Carlos González, el alcalde de la isla, los pasajeros desembarcados los recibieron con mariachis, la música y bailarines, las demostraciones folklóricas y premios. 2.347 pasajeros y sobre 700 tripulaciones llegaron el Muelle SSA 10 am en el Enchantment of the Seas.

Un alumerzo especial, ofrecido por Felix González Canto, el Gobernador del estado de Quintana Roo. Allí estaban la secretaria Mexicana del turismo, y el Secretario de Estado del turismo, el alcalde de Cozumel y otros oficiales del gobierno.

The reenactment of the Sacred Mayan path took place Saturday, where rowers from the mainland return to Cozumel.    The event dates back to pre-hispanic  times, with the rowers returning to Chankanaab lagoon, to place offerings to the goddess Ixchel, the goddess of fertility, health and harvest.  National and international visitors alike gathered together to watch the spectacle, of over an hour, which included an underwater light show, along with the recreation of ancient Mayan rituals.  The event was officiated  by Juan Carlos Gonazalez .  This is the third year the event has been promoted and has become a not to be missed Cozumel event. 

La reenacimiento de la trayectoria maya sagrada ocurrió sábado, donde los participante del continente vuelven a Cozumel. El acontecimiento data de los tiempos pre-hispanico, con los participantes regresando a la laguna de Chankanaab, a las ofrendas del lugar a la diosa Ixchel,y  a la diosa de la fertilidad, de la salud y de la cosecha. Los visitantes nacionales e internacionales juntos para mirar el espectáculo, durante de una hora, que incluyó una demostración subacuática, junto con la reconstrucción de rituales mayas antiguos. El acontecimiento fue oficiado por Juan Carlos Gonazalez. Éste es el tercer año que se ha promovido el acontecimiento y tiene a convertirse en un acontecimiento que no falte en Cozumel.

This week’s Friday Happy Hour is slated to take place at La Canalla, “The Heartbreaker” from 6 – 9 pm.   Owner, Patricio Cullen is offering 2 x1 drinks for this special event, as well as live music, featuring the Blue Parrot band, headed by  a New Orleans based harmonica player, Will Sievert.  You can find more information, including directions on the chatboard.

Katie Jackson has recently opened a brand new salon, Blu Bambu,  in Cozumel.  Katie has recently moved to the island from Minneapolis/St. Paul , where she  was a highly desired  hairstylist, makeup artist, and fashion stylist for 5 years. Specialized work experience includes makeup, hair coloring, cutting, styling, facial waxing, wardrobe styling, and runway work.

May has been an unseasonably hot month this year, and with the recent heavy rains Cozumel has had, there have been hoards of mosquitoes.  Mosquitoes, aside from being an itchy nuisance, can also carry Dengue Fever, so here is  a  tip to keep yourself, and your neighborhood safe:  If you have standing water or puddles in front of your house a few drops of bleach in the  water will prevent the mosquitos  and their eggs from hatching. 

En Mayo  empieza  a llover y con esto inicia  la temporada de mosquitos. Es por esto que tenemos que tener cuidado con el dengue provocado por los mosquitos les vamos a dar algunos tips para mantener su vecindario saludable y limpio. Cuando se acumule un poco de agua en estanques o en la calle puede poner unas gotas de cloro para prevenir las larvas de los mosquitos.
