Gabi “Loco” and Freedom Trax Cozumel

Support a local mobility business & help a local family…..

Gabi was a dive master, that worked at many different dive operations, during his life in Cozumel. In September 2010, Gabi was diving with 2 other divers. One of the divers came under the effects of nitrogen narcosis and inexplicably decided to dive to the bottom. Gabi went after her to try and save her. He did bring her to the surface, but she passed a month later and Gabi was left paralyzed from mid-chest down.

Since then we’ve been working together, to find a way for Gabi to support his family and live a productive life. We started Freedom Divers Cozumel to help promote adaptive diving in Cozumel.

Gabi also started Gabi Loco’s Mayan Treasures to sell his hand made souvenirs. The souvenir market in Cozumel is highly competitive and Gabi has struggled to make enough to support his family.

During the summer of 2017, Chris Wright saw a video showing Freedom Trax, a mobility device that can be attached to most manual wheelchairs and can go over sand, mud, gravel and other off-road obstacles. We started a go fund me and raised over half of the money needed to purchase a Freedom Trax for Gabi.

Since his accident, Gabi has only been able to see the beaches from the parking lot. He can only watch as his family enjoys their day at the beach. Cozumel has beautiful beaches, but there is very little access for people with mobility issues. The first day that we brought Gabi’s Freedom Trax to Cozumel, we went to Chen Rio. Even in the deep sand of Chen Rio, Gabi was able to go everywhere on the beach.

There are thousands of people with mobility issues that come to Cozumel every year. These people are not able to enjoy the beaches of Cozumel fully. Therefore, Gabi started Freedom Trax Cozumel. Gabi will be renting Freedom Trax, so that other people can enjoy the beautiful beaches of Cozumel. By starting a rental business, Gabi will also be able to support his family more effectively.

Please help by getting the word out. Gabi and his wife Maria will deliver Freedom Trax to hotels, beach clubs, beaches, etc. In time, we will have more Freedom Trax to rent and Gabi will be able to do Freedom Trax tours. Between April 5th and 12th we will have 2 additional Freedom Trax in Cozumel.

Contact us on the Freedom Trax Cozumel Facebook page to set up a tour or rental with Gabi and Freedom Trax Cozumel. Gabi is also the exclusive dealer for Freedom Trax in the Cozumel area. If you decide you want to buy a Freedom Trax for home, Gabi can help you with that as well. We want to make everywhere in Cozumel wheelchair accessible with Freedom Trax and Gabi Locos Freedom Trax Cozumel.

Gabi “Loco” y Freedom Trax Cozumel
