Xcaret and Xelhá, new ferry service to Cozumel & the mainland

Cozumel, Mx. – It will be in August when Xcaret Xailing Group will be launching the Xcaret and Xelhá boats to provide the Cozumel – Playa del Carmen and vice versa maritime service.
This was confirmed by Miguel Alonso Marrufo, head of Administración Portuaria Integral de Quintana Roo (Apiqroo) in Cozumel. He pointed out that the company has been expediting paperwork in order to start its operations next month, which is why it has been assigned a space in the San Miguel terminal where their ticket sales booth will be placed.
He stated that Xcaret Xailing will start operations with two 650-passenger boats named Xel-Ha and Xcaret, besides other two vessels that could come in as support in the event those providing service could suffer damage, although their capacity is smaller -for 350 passengers- and will only be called if necessary.
According to the concession that has been granted, they could operate 24 hours, but he also clarified that they will have to adhere to the operation rules for the Island as assigned by the Port Authority in order not to have issues with the operations at the pier.
Although he does not yet have information on the rates that the company will have, it is expected that the price will be accessible and not only focused on tourism but, on the contrary, have a greater flow of tourism from the Mayan Riviera to Cozumel.

Cozumel, Mx.- Será el próximo mes de agosto cuando grupo Xcaret Xailing active la embarcación Xcaret y Xelhá para que brinden el servicio de la ruta federal Cozumel – Playa del Carmen y viceversa.
Así lo confirmó Miguel Alonso Marrufo, titular de Administración Portuaria Integral de Quintana Roo (Apiqroo) en Cozumel, quien señaló que la empresa ha estado agilizando los trámites para activar sus operaciones en el siguiente mes, motivo por el cual ya se le asignó un espacio en la terminal San Miguel, donde estarán instalando su ventanilla para la venta de boletos.
La compañía Xacaret Xailing, empezará con dos embarcaciones con capacidad de 650 pasajeros que tendrán el nombre de Xel-Ha y Xcaret, además de otras dos embarcaciones que podrán entrar como apoyo en caso de que alguna de las que presta el servicio sufra algún deterioro, aunque éstas son de una menor capacidad, toda vez serán de 350 pasajeros, pero solo se activarán en caso de ser necesario, aseguró.
Según la concesión que le fue otorgada podrían trabajar las 24 horas, pero aclaró que tendrán que seguir las reglas de operación de la isla asignadas por la Capitanía de Puerto para no tener problemas de en las operación del muelle.
Aunque todavía no tiene información de las tarifas que tendrá la naviera, se prevé que pueda contemplar un precio accesible y que no sólo esté enfocado al turismo de cruceros, sino que por el contrario, se tenga un mayor flujo de turismo proveniente de la Riviera Maya a Cozumel.
