Cozumel is well on the way to solidify its position as a prime destination for sports tourism.  Recently officials from the Municipal Tourism Department have been in negotiations with the Alpine Cycle Connection, a US based company that specializes in destination bicycle tours, to bring an additional cycle race to the island in November.

The fall season, which has traditionally not been a heavy time for tourism, already has a busy athletic itinerary.  In fact, Cozumel is already scheduled to host the Metlife 70.3 Ironman on September 22nd, the ITU Triathlon on October 5th,  World Cup in and the Ford Ironman Cozumel 2014 on December 2nd.    The additional cycle event could, in fact, encourage athletes to live and train on-island for the entire season.

Alpine Cycle Connection has nearly two decades of experience in creating cycling tours and events in the United States, including the “Bike Virginia Tour, ” ” 109 º West Bike Tour, ” and  “Ride the Rockies.”
