Mexico 500 peso bill

Mexico Unveils a New $500 peso bill

Additional security measures & new graphics…..

Last Monday the Bank of Mexico (Banxico)  will be rolling out a new 500 peso bill on September 1, 2018.  Alejandro Diaz de Leon, CEO of Banxico, stated that the new bills are designed to be easier to authenticate  as well as generate national identity and respect for the natural ecosystems in the country.

The new bill features Benito Juarez, who has been gracing the $20 mxn bill for over 20 years.  The reverse side is an illustration of the El Vizcaino Biosphere Reserve, a nature preserve for the grey whale in Baja California Sur.

The previous $500 mxn bill sported images of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo.  According to Banxico these older banknotes will be replaced gradually until they are fully withdrawn from the market, although they will continue to retain their value.  The older version of the $500 peso bill has been reported to be the most often counterfeited since it was launched in 2010.

One of the new security measures will be the “fluorescence”, which will allow the inks and fibrils to stand out under the “black light”. Additionally, there is a dynamic thread that makes the numbers appear closer and father away when the bars move. The folio will be growing; while maintaining the reliefs sensitive to touch, such as the words “Bank of Mexico”, “Five hundred pesos”, lines and contours of the character.

México lanza un nuevo billete de $ 500 pesos

Medidas de seguridad adicionales y nuevas imágenes. . .
