Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines has announced that their brand-new “Quantum Class” line of Super Cruisers is nearing completion, and the ships should be calling into Cozumel ports between 2014 – 2015.  The 2 new Quantum class cruisers, named “Quantum of the Seas,” and “Anthem of the Seas,” will not be as large as RCCL’s “Oasis Class” ships, considered to be the world’s largest, which already call into Cozumel. According to RCCL’s literature, each Quantum-class ship will offer state of the art entertainment, including a Sea-plex deck, which is “a large indoor venue with a full-size basketball court that can be converted into a dance floor, a flying trapeze school, a roller-skating arena, or a bumper cars ride. The “SeaPlex” also features a “food truck” casual dining venue and table tennis, air hockey and foosball tables on a second-level mezzanine.”

The Quantum of the Seas is expected to be completed in November of 2014, while the Anthem of the Seas will not be ready until Spring of 2015.  With gross tonnages of 167,800,  the cruisers have been under construction in Finland since 2011.   The Quantum, which will call Cape Liberty Cruise Port, Bayonne, New Jersey her home port, is expected to start operating in the winter of 2014.
