Cozumel Kicks Off Triathlon Season with Ironman 70.3

Last weekend started the season  off with the Ironman 70.3….

 

Last Sunday, September 24th, Cozumel was the scene of the 6th annual 70.3 MetLife Ironman.  The sold-out event, was attended by more than 1,500 athletes and their families cheering them on.  The weather was ideal and local crowds turned out to cheer on the professionals as well as the amateurs, many of which actually hailed from the island.

Terenzo Bozzone, the #2 ranked pro in the world, took first place in the Men’s Elite division with an overall time of

3:50:36.   Mauricio Mendez, who hails from Mexico, took 3rd place in the Men’s Elite  division; much to the thrill of the home country spectators. Stephanie Roy claimed the first place in the Women’s Elite Division, with a time of 4:18:47 The official race results can be found here.

The Ironman 70.3 is actually considered to be the kick off event for what has come to be known as “Cozumel Triathlon Season.”  This upcoming weekend marks the start of the ITU World Cup Triathlon, which will take place from September 30 – October 1.  The ITU Triathlon is broken down into Olympic, Sprint, Ironkids and other categories.

Other Triathlon events include the Grand Fundo New York (GFNY) which will take place November 12, and the Ironman Triathlon event November 26.

 

Although the 2017 dates for the 70.3 Ironman have yet to be announced, Cozumel is already gearing up for the  Ironman Cozumel which takes place on November 27, 2017.  For more information on the upcoming Triathlon, check out this link.

Con Ironman 70.3 arranca la temporada de triatlones en Cozumel

La semana pasada inicio la temporada con Ironman 70.3. . .

El pasado domingo 24 de septiembre Cozumel fue escenario del 6º Ironman MetLife 70.3. El evento totalmente vendido contó con la participación de más de 1500 atletas y sus familias quienes les animaban. El clima fue ideal y el público animó tanto a los profesionales como a los novatos, muchos de los cuales proceden de la Isla.

 

Terenzo Bozzone, clasificado como el 2º profesional en el mundo, consiguió el primer lugar en la división élite varonil con un tiempo total de 3:50:25. Con gran emoción de los espectadores nacionales, el mexicano Mauricio Méndez obtuvo  el 3er. lugar también en la división élite varonil. En la femenil, Stephanie Roy logró el primer sitio con 4:18:47. Aquí pueden encontrar los resultados oficiales de la competencia.

mporada de Triatlones de Cozumel”. El próximo fin de semana, Septiembre 30 a Octubre 1º, se lleva a cabo el Triatlón ITU Copa Mundial. El Triatlón ITU se divide en diversas categorías como la olímpica, sprint, Ironkids y otras.

 

Otros eventos de triatlón incluyen el Gran Fondo Nueva York (GFNY)) el 12 de noviembre y el triatlón Ironman en

Noviembre 26.
