Plans in the works for a spay/neuter campaign in 2018  ……

On November 28th the Humane Society of Cozumel Island had the distinct pleasure to host a visit from Colorado’s one and only “Rocky Mountain Vet,” Dr. Jeff Young.

Dr Jeff is instrumental in the works of Planned Pethood International. PPI is a nonprofit organization with a simple mission….to reduce the overpopulation of companion animals throughout the world. It’s a cause very near and dear to the HSCI since the have an international training center established  in Merida.   You can check out their Facebook page here.

PPI through Dr. Jeff has trained veterinarians and conducts sterilization campaigns in Slovakia, India, Panama, Hungary, Mexico, Poland, Turkey and numerous Native American Reservations in the USA. It is a volunteer organization where vets can donate their time and training for the noble cause of reducing the overpopulation problems and helping abused and abandoned animals around the globe.

Lisa Ramirez, the current HSCI President, as well as other staff members, had the honor of meeting Dr Jeff at the inauguration of their newest facility last year in Puerto Morelos, which is located on the mainland, between Playa del Carmen and Cancun.

The entire Board of Directors, Staff and Trustees of the HSCI support Dr Jeff and his efforts in Mexico.   In fact, our very own HSCI vets  assist in his sterilization campaigns on the mainland.

campaign right here in  Cozumel which will take place early next year. It will be a huge honor for Cozumel to host a famous animal activist like Dr. Jeff and his amazing team of volunteer vets.  Of course, local support is vital in making this a reality.

To stay abreast of our next spay/neuter campaign, and all the other HSCI activities, please “like”  us on Facebook.  Dr. Jeff also has his very own Facebook page, where you can keep up to date on his and PPI activities.
