Grammy winner to perform May 12 as part of the 500 year celebrations…..

As part of the upcoming “Cozumel 500 Años: Encuentro de 2 Culturas”  celebration, which will take place from May 2nd – 13th, its recently been announced that Lila Downs will be performing live in concert on May 12th, in the Park “Quintana Roo.”


Lila Downs is a Grammy-winner singer, songwriter and actress. Born in Oaxaca, she’s known to incorporate indigenous Mexican languages into her songs. Including:  Mixtec, Zapotec, Mayan, Nahuatl and Purepecha languages in her songs


The singer is very involved in humatarian causes – especially those that involve Latin American’s indigenous people.


The concert – as well as other events in the “Cozumel 500 Años: Encuentro de Dos Culturas” program –  means

to “bring awareness to the community and visitors of the island of Cozumel of  the island’s  cultural richness and roots, and to promote Cozumel as  more than just a tourist destination which is known only for its natural beauty”.   This cultural program has been on-going since 2017 with the culmination in the early parts of May.

Como parte de la celebración “Cozumel 500 Años: Encuentro de 2 Culturas” que se realizará de Mayo 2 al 13, recientemente fue anunciada el concierto en vivo de Lila Downs en 12 de mayo en el parque “Quintana Roo”:


Lila Downs es una intérprete ganadora del Grammy, compositora y actriz, nacida en Oaxaca. Se le conoce por incorporar lenguas indígenas mexicanas a sus canciones, incluyendo el mixteco-zapoteco, maya, nahua y purépecha.


La intérprete está sumamente comprometida con causas humanitarias, en especial aquellas que implican a los pueblos latinoamericanos.

Este concierto así como otros eventos del programa “Cozumel 500 Años: Encuentro de 2 Culturas” significan: “sensibilizar a la comunidad de Cozumel y sus visitantes acerca de la riqueza y raíces culturales de Cozumel, promoviendo a la Isla como algo más que tan solo un destino turístico al que únicamente se le conoce por su belleza natural”. Este programa cultural ha estado vigente desde al año 2017, culminando a comienzos de Mayo.
