Cozumel Roadwork Repair Begins:  Beware of Road Closures

Cozumel motorists will need to keep an eye out for road closures for the next month as roadwork has recently begun on the island’s streets.  The Department of Public Works on both the State and the local level have teamed up to   address Cozumel’s potholes now that tourism is on the rise.

The areas affected are Playa Bonita, on the eastern side of the island, while in the San Miguel area Av. Rafael E. Melgar to Playa Caletita, will be subject to sporadic closures as these thoroughfares are repaired.  There will be  detours and closures for both vehicles and pedestrian traffic during these repairs.

In the press release where the repairs were announced, Cozumel’s current Mayor Pedro Joaquin Delbouis mentioned that since the main downtown road will be affected both CAPA and CFE have carried out studies so that any water or electricity service to the community will not be affected. All in all the work is estimated to take 45 days, with Civil Protection and Cozumel municipal transport in charge of road closures.
