Cozumel’s Communal Wedding Not Enticing Gay Couples

February 14th marked the 27th year that Cozumel’s Civil Registry has offered a free collective wedding.  According to the official Registrar, Bernardo Alonso Marrufo, this is also the second year that this Cozumel tradition has been offered for same-sex marriages.  Of the 43 couples that married last week none of them were of the same-sex.

In fact, according to the Registrar, although the municipality has had the legislation to conduct same sex marriages, they are very uncommon, and in fact so far it’s been limited to foreign visitors on the island who have taken the opportunity to have a destination wedding.
