PROFECO Revises Cozumel Merchants to Ensure Customer Protection

The Cozumel division of the Consumer Protection Agency, or Procuraduría Federal del Consumidor (Profeco) has been visiting island businesses, specifically types that have received consumer complaints, including jewelry stores, car rental agencies, and pawn shops.  PROFECO has the ability to levy fines to non-compliant companies.

PROFECO has English speaking members on staff to assist non-Spanish speaking individuals report and resolve their issues. Bi-lingual assistance is especially useful for tourists, who oftentimes have difficulty resolving issues from afar. For more information on PROFECO, and their services, check out their webpage:
