Cozumel Seniors Await The Second COVID – 19 Vaccination

The deputy of Social Programs of the Federal Government, Gerandily Gutiérrez Poot, acknowledged that after 26 days since the first of two doses of the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 was applied to almost three thousand senior citizens in Cozumel, no date has been confirmed yet for the second dose. However, she admitted that the waiting period could be up to 45 days after the first dose was applied so she urges the population to remain alert for the next arrival of immunizations. This includes members of the North American community residing in the Island.

Due to the uncertainty among relatives of senior citizens and among those senior citizens who were first inoculated on February 25 and 26, and who have respectively reached the 16 and 26 days since the first of two COVID-19 vaccines were applied, it’s been mentioned they are waiting for the next batch of immunizations even though they were told that the second jab would be two or three weeks after the first one.

In this regard, the deputy for the Federal Programs in Cozumel, Gerandily Gutiérrez Poot, assured that in accordance with clinical trials and recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), those who received the first Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, can receive the second immunization 21 to 42 days later.

She stressed that people that were scheduled to receive the second COVID-19 vaccines within the following days, who were supposed to receive a second jab three to four weeks after the first one, will be rescheduled as the arrival of vials are received.

Meanwhile, senior citizens can follow the information as per the Technical Guidelines for Pfizer/BioNTech vaccinations against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, so she urges them to stay tuned for official information released in the media as there are still at least 20 more days to be able to get the second dose of the vaccines.
