I generally don’t write posts… but I think that a LOT of people could benefit from this information… mainly divers.
… and hopefully this helps reduce LOTS of bracelets I find underwater when I dive

As you all know, in Cozumel we have a National Marine Park Arrecifes de Cozumel.
Its a federal protected area which visitors pay a daily pass (Marine Park Pass) to enjoy multiple beauties as reefs / beaches / Sand bars / animals / etc.

This marine park pass is provided generally by the tour operator and it is a bracelet that should be given daily to each client and should be worn on the wrist of such client.

If you are a temporary visitor (less than 10 days / year) this band is perfect for you… an inexpensive fee for a good goal.

But if you visit the National Marine Park more than 10 days / year… this is DEFINITIVELY of your interest!

The CONANP not only offers the marine park bracelets… but also a CONSERVATION PASSPORT.

This is actually a card (easy to stack in your wallet) and basically pays itself off after 10+ visits to the National Marine Park.
The CONSERVATION PASSPORT was officially released in 2006, but for some “mystery reason” no one knows about it.

To get the passport is quite simple.
1.- Have a valid photo I.D. with you.
2.- Ask your friendly operator (dive / snorkel / etc) to process your passport with the Parque Nacional Arrecifes de Cozumel y APFF Isla Cozumel. (Please be patient since they will probably need to round up all the information).
3.- Pay your fees.

Advantages of the card?
1.- Visit the marine park consecutively for 1 full year with no additional charges.
2.- REDUCE Trash (many less bracelets out there each year)
3.- Save some money on each visit (one bracelet less per visit).
4.- Its valid for MORE FEDERAL PARKS in MEXICO. (Chankanaab / Punta Sur are not Federal Parks btw)
5.- REDUCE Trash (I must insist… I think this one is the most important of them all)

Find below the link to the official “Conservation Passport” and its explanation on how to use it.

Ask your dive operator to find information in the CONANP about the subject & help reduce trash….

Hi – great information on the Conservation Passport. Is there any other way to get the Passport. I have asked my dive operator and they are not familiar with the concept.
