Juanita Obdulia Alonso Marrufo is the virtual winner for the next Cozumel Mayor

COZUMEL, June 2021. – Juanita Obdulia Alonso Marrufo is the virtual winner to the Cozumel mayor office and the second woman in the political history of the Island to lead the people of Cozumel.

In accordance with the official results published by the electoral Institute of Quintana Roo, Juanita Obdulia Alonso Marrufo candidate for “Juntos Hacemos Historia en Quintana Roo” coalition, got 17,489 favorable votes. This figure represents 47.2726% of the total votes tallied.

Ms. Alonso Marrufo was followed by Pedro Oscar Joaquín Delbouis, candidate for “Va por Quintana Roo” coalition with 16,271 votes representing 43.9804% of the tallied votes. So far, the difference of votes between MORENA-PVEM-PT and MAS parties’ coalition and the PAN-PRI-PRD-CQROO parties is just 1218.

According to the order of votes, Aurora Ariadne Santín Coral, the independent candidate, had 555 votes representing 1.5001% of the total votes.

The “Redes Sociales Progresistas Cozumel” candidate, Gabriela Angulo Sauri, was fourth with 477 votes, representing 1.2893 % of the tally.

Fifth in the order with 472 votes is the “Fuerza por México Cozumel” candidate, Rubí Guadalupe Peniche, representing only 1.2758% .

Second to last came Carlos Enrique Canto Martin, candidate for “Encuentro Solidario de Cozumel, with 441 which represent 1.1920% of the total votes.

Lastly comes Francisco Javier Sierra, “Caballo Loco”, with 325, this is 0.8784% of the total votes. He had the lowest tally of votes in the 2020-2021 elections. He ran for “Movimiento Ciudadano Cozumel”

According to the applicable Electoral Law in order to have a seat in a City Council position, a candidate must have reached at least 3% of the total registered votes, this is, at least 1,110 votes.

This means that the last five candidates might not have a space in the collegiate body, instead they would be a part thereof through proportional representation of the incumbent candidate for the mayor’s office; of the incumbent candidate of the municipal ombudsman office and incumbent candidate as councilperson for the “Va por México/Quintana Roo” coalition.

Of note is that from the 67,555 citizens with the right to vote, 36,966 citizens participated with their votes on Sunday June 6, representing 54.7643% of the electoral roll.

Therefore, votes counted as valid were 36,030 (representing 97.3889& of the total votes tallied); 924 were rendered null and void, and 42 were for unregistered candidates, in other words, 966 votes were useless (2.6111% of the votes tallied).

While there is still a minimum number of ballots to be counted and the official numbers will be announced later, Juanita Alonso Marrufo, virtual mayor-elect, thanked citizens for their vote of confidence and urged everyone to come together for a better Cozumel; leaving political differences behind to move the municipality forward.

COZUMEL, junio del 2021.- Juanita Obdulia Alonso Marrufo, virtual ganadora de la presidencia municipal de Cozumel, será la segunda mujer en la historia política de la isla en gobernar a los cozumeleños.

De acuerdo a los resultados oficiales publicados por el Instituto Electoral de Quintana Roo, se contabilizaron 17 mil 489 votos a favor de la candidata de la coalición “Juntos Hacemos Historia por Quintana Roo”, Juanita Obdulia Alonso Marrufo. Dicha cifra representa el 47.2726 por ciento del total de votos contabilizados.

Con 16 mil 271 votos le siguió el candidato de la coalición “Va por Quintana Roo”, Pedro Oscar Joaquín Delbouis. La cifra representa el 43.9804 por ciento del total de los votos contabilizados. La diferencia por ahora entre la candidata de los partidos MORENA- PVEM – PT y MAS y el candidato de los partidos PAN- PRI – PRD – CQROO es de apenas 1, 218 sufragios.

En orden de votos, la candidata independiente Aurora Ariadne Santín Coral cerró con 555 votos que representan apenas el 1.5001 por ciento del total de los sufragios contabilizados.

La candidata de Redes Sociales Progresistas Cozumel, Gabriela Angulo Sauri se adjudicó la cuarta posición con 477 votos que representan apenas el 1.2893 por ciento de los sufragios contabilizados.

En la quinta posición se encuentra la candidata de Fuerza Por México Cozumel, Rubí Guadalupe Peniche Gamboa con 472 sufragios a su favor que representan apenas el 1.2758 por ciento de los votos contabilizados.

Carlos Enrique Canto Martín, candidato del Partido Encuentro Solidario Cozumel quedó en penúltima posición con 441 votos que representan apenas el 1.1920 por ciento fe los sufragios contabilizados.

Y por último, Francisco Javier Aguilar Sierra “Caballo Loco” registró 325 votos, es decir el 0.8784 por ciento de los votos totales. Resultó el más bajo del proceso electoral 2020-2021. Su candidatura fue por el Partido Movimiento Ciudadano Cozumel



De acuerdo a la ley electoral, para asumir una regiduría un aspirante debe registrar al menos el tres por ciento del total del listado nominal, es decir alrededor de mil 110 sufragios.

Es decir, que en el caso de los últimos cinco aspirantes, podrían quedarse sin espacio en el cuerpo colegiado, y en su lugar entrarían por representación proporcional el candidato titular de la presidencia municipal; la candidata titular de la sindicatura municipal y el candidato titular de la 1a regiduría de la planilla correspondiente a la coalición “Va por México / Quintana Roo”.

Cabe hacer mención que durante la jornada del domingo seis de junio, participaron 36 mil 966 ciudadanos que representan el 54.7643 por ciento del listado nominal de 67 mil 555 con derecho a votar.

Por ello, se contabilizaron como validos 36 mil 30 votos (que representan el 97.3889 por ciento del total de votos contabilizados); se anularon 924 sufragios y se registraron 42 votos por candidaturas no registradas, es decir un total de 966 votos sin utilidad (2.6111 por ciento del total de votos contabilizados).

Aunque aún falta un porcentaje mínimo de boletas por contabilizar y posteriormente se anunciarán los números finales oficiales; Juanita Alonso Marrufo, presidenta virtual electa, agradeció a la ciudadanía el voto de confianza e instó a la unidad por un mejor Cozumel, dejando atrás las diferencias políticas para sacar adelante al municipio.
