COZUMEL WILL HAVE MORE FLIGHTS IN SPRING AND SUMMER
COZUMEL, February 2021.- This week the municipal government of Cozumel, released the news of the new flights during the spring and summer vacation coming from the United States, Europe (Madrid) and connecting domestically from Monterrey.
These flights will begin in March with more flights to come from different airline companies. This will be favorable for the municipality as flight traffic had dropped in previous months and recovery has been slow.
The first three flights activated will be with different airlines. The first will be Southwest, Houston-Cozumel-Houston, and Frontier with the Chicago-Cozumel-Chicago flight, both with outbound market from the United States for the spring period.
It was also informed that Evelop Airlines, will put into effects flights with the European market, remembering that since 2020 the company’s directors let know their interest in Cozumel, but due to the pandemic plans were canceled; with the certifications and health safety guarantees, they have resumed operations.
In this sense, the Governor of the State, Carlos Joaquín Delbouis, clarified that Evelop airline operate with an aircraft that anticipates more than 3,800 seats from Madrid-Cozumel-Madrid, this will be positive for the entire tourism sector in the Island, although this will be for the summer months of July, August and part of September, depending on the demand.
It was likewise informed that the Monterrey-Cozumel-Monterrey domestic flights will operate from July 1st to August 12th through the Viva Aerobus, highlighting that in this sense, stopovers from other countries may be made with such destination in order to reach the Paradise Island of the Swallows on summer.
TRAVEL AGENCIES, IN CHECK.
The representative in Cozumel of the Mexican Association of Travel Agencies (AMAV), Ivonne Opalin Pérez, joins the call made by Miguel Angel Torruco Marques, the Minister of Tourism, asking that the tourism activity they do be considered as a priority activity so they can be taken into consideration for the vaccine shots; this among other programs to safely resume their activities.
She acknowledged that the lack of interest from clients who in other times sought to buy packages for different seasons of the year and visit Cozumel, made them [Agencies] suffer a collapse and recovery has not been possible, although they have been adapting to the conditions to which the interviewee said: “although the packages have become more attractive, people rather take care of their health and their money, so they have not traveled as they did in other times, at least not until the application of vaccines has gone further in our country.”
It is precisely for this reason that the national president of AMAV, Eduardo Paniagua Morales, issued a letter addressing the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, making a petition to heed the request made by the Minister of Tourism, Miguel Torruco, asking to prioritize the tourism sector, especially because millions of families depend on this activity affected and minimized by the SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic.
Opalin Pérez, added that the members of the agencies in the nation have joined the petition with the intention of letting him know that the members that integrate the valuable chain of the country’s tourism, are the first in looking after local and foreign tourists. This puts them at a greater risk of contagion. Therefore, she said, they ask to be considered within the priority activities so as to be included in the national vaccination plan to prevent contagion, and thus keep the tourist and economic activity of every corner of Mexico as in the case of Cozumel active. They hope for a positive response so they may be able to offer assurances to visitors.
TOUR GUIDES, THE QUALIFIED ADVISORS FOR TOURISTS.
Even though some social media sites have tried to discredit the dignified image of the work that tour guides in Cozumel do every day, they barely survive on tips from the few tourists who arrive to the resort, because, contrary to other periods when a specific rate was assigned to customized tours, now they work over eight hours expecting “tips” to support their households.
However, it should be noted that they have not stopped seeking certification in health matters as the Ministry of Tourism requires in the State. The Ministry has issued certifications to more than 20 guides who are part of the Professional Guides (Guides-Pro) group in Cozumel. Therefore, tourism workers have had to modify the routes of their services due to the suspension in which some services remain.
Unlike other times when cruise line companies or different companies hired guides for tours in the municipality, since March 2020 to date (February 2021) conditions have changed drastically, resulting in several workers of this the sector being forced to change their work; while those who have remained have had to find ways to develop new routes therefore have been studying about the construction of places that were not included in the tours in the past.
Likewise, they have implemented health protocols such as antibacterial gel, measuring temperature and the urging people to observe social distancing between one and other. They have even done this voluntarily with the tourists to whom they explain the restrictions of having to wear the mask so they can avoid being penalized, otherwise a bad impression of the destination would ensue.
Visitors appreciate that sort of guidance and in turn they voluntarily give a tip to those who assisted them or guided them to find a good place to eat, accommodations or others. This situation that generates a small income without it being mandatory; at least not for certified guides identified by their uniform and badge that qualifies them. Visitors have even expressed in social media how important these guides are to get referrals.

COZUMEL TENDRÁ MÁS VUELOS EN PRIMAVERA Y VERANO.
COZUMEL, febrero 2021.- Esta semana el gobierno municipal de Cozumel, dio a conocer la noticia de las nuevas frecuencias con las que podrá contarse durante el periodo vacacional de primavera y verano provenientes desde Estados Unidos, Europa (Madrid) y nacionales con la conexión desde Monterrey.
Dicha conectividad que iniciará en marzo próximo, permitirá que se registren más conexiones en los siguientes periodos, lo que será benéfico para el municipio ante el tráfico de vuelos que había descendido en los meses anteriores y que han tenido una lenta recuperación.
Las tres primeras conexiones que se activarán será con diferentes firmas aéreas, la primera será con Southwest que reactivará su conexión Houston- Cozumel-Houston, sumándose la firma Frontier con el vuelo desde Chicago-Cozumel-Chicago, ambas frecuencias con el mercado emisor desde Estados Unidos para el periodo de primavera.
De igual manera se informó que la empresa Evelop Airlines, concretará su intención de activar la frecuencia con el mercado europeo, recordándose que desde el 2020 los directivos de la empresa dejaron saber su interés por la ruta hacia Cozumel, pero por cuestiones de la pandemia se canceló esta y con las certificaciones y garantías de seguridad sanitaria, han retomado el tema para su activación.
En este sentido el propio Gobernador del Estado, Carlos Joaquín Delbouis, aclaró que la aerolínea Evelop activará la conexión con un aeroplano que contemplará más de tres mil 800 asientos desde Madrid-Cozumel-Madrid, lo cual será benéfico para todo el sector turístico insular, aunque esta conexión será para el periodo de verano que abarcará de julio, agosto y parte de septiembre, según la demanda.
Asimismo, se dejó saber que la conexión nacional de Monterrey-Cozumel-Monterrey, se estará activando del primero de julio al 12 de agosto a través de la firma Viva aerobús, resaltándose que en este sentido podrán hacerse escalas desde otros países con dicho destino para poder llegar a la paradisíaca isla de las golondrinas durante el verano.
AGENCIAS DE VIAJE, EN JAQUE.
Representante en Cozumel de la Asociación Mexicana de Agencias de Viajes A.C. (AMAV), Ivonne Opaline Pérez, se suma al llamado del Secretario de Turismo, Miguel Ángel Torruco Marques, ante la solicitud de que la actividad turística que desempeñan, sea considerada como actividad prioritaria para que de esa manera puedan ser contemplados para la aplicación de las vacunas, entre otros programas para su reactivación segura.
Reconoció que el desinterés de los clientes que en otros tiempos buscaban comprar paquetes para diversas temporadas del año y así visitar Cozumel, sufrió un desplome del cual no han logrado recuperarse, aunque se han ido adaptando a las modalidades de las que incluso refirió la entrevistada que “a pesar de que se han hecho más atractivos los paquetes, la gente ha preferido cuidar su salud y su dinero, por lo que no han querido viajar como en otros tiempos, al menos no hasta que hayan avances de la aplicación de vacunas en nuestro país”.
Es precisamente por ello que aseguró, a nivel nacional, el presidente nacional de la AMAV, Eduardo Paniagua Morales, emitió una carta dirigida al presidente de la república, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, a quien le hacen el llamado a atender la petición del Secretario de Turismo, Miguel Torruco, derivado de la prioridad en la que consideran, debería de tomarse al sector dedicado al turismo, sobre todo porque millones de familias dependen de esta actividad que se ha visto afectada y minimizada por la pandemia del virus del SARS-CoV-2.
Opaline Pérez, agregó que los integrantes de las agencias en la nación se han sumado a realizar dicha petición con la intención de hacerle saber que los integrantes de la cadena de valor de la actividad turística en el país, son la primera línea de atención a los turistas locales o extranjeros, lo que los pone en mayor riesgo de contagio y para ello solicitan ser considerados dentro de las actividades prioritarias para así poder contemplarlos en el plan nacional de vacunación para prevenir el contagio y que de esa manera puedan mantener la actividad turística y económica de cada rincón de México como en el caso de Cozumel, dijo, por lo que esperan una respuesta favorable con la cual además puedan seguir brindando las garantías a los visitantes.
GUÍAS DE TURISMO, ORIENTADORES CALIFICADOS PARA TURISTAS.
A pesar de que en algunas redes sociales se ha tratado de desprestigiar la imagen digna del trabajo que realizan día a día los guías de turismo en Cozumel, éstos apenas sobreviven con propinas que reciben del escaso turismo que arriba al destino, pues contrario a otros periodos donde asignaban una tarifa específica al brindar los tours personalizados, ahora permanecen más de ocho horas trabajando en espera de los “tips” para llevar el sustento a sus hogares.
Sin embargo, es de resaltar que no por ello han dejado de buscar su certificación en cuestiones sanitarias como las exige la Secretaría de Turismo en la entidad, misma que ha emitido las constancias a los más de 20 guías que forman partes de la agrupación Guías Profesionales (Guías-Pro), en Cozumel, por lo que los trabajadores del sector turístico se han visto motivados a modificar las rutas de sus servicios ante la paralización en la que permanecen algunos servicios.
A diferencia de otros tiempos en los que las líneas de cruceros o empresas diversas contrataban a los guías para la realización de los tours en el municipio, de marzo del 2020 a la fecha (febrero del 2021), las condiciones cambiaron de manera drástica, lo que ha generado que varios trabajadores del sector estén obligados a cambiar de giro en su jornada laboral, mientras que los que han permanecido se han tenido que ingeniar en elaborar nuevas rutas para lo cual estudiaron sobre la edificación de lugares que antes no estaban incluidos en los paseos.
Asimismo, han implementado mecanismos de los protocolos sanitarios como la aplicación del gel antibacterial, la toma de temperatura y la exhortación a respetar la distancia entre uno y otro ciudadano, incluso lo han hecho de modo voluntario con los turistas a quienes les explican cómo se encuentran las restricciones del cubreboca en el destino, a fin de evitar que sean multados y que eso genere una mala imagen del destino.
Tal orientación es agradecida por los visitantes que de manera voluntaria optan por brindar la propina a su agrado a cada uno de los que le atendieron o guiaron a ubicar algún buen lugar para comer, para hospedarse o demás, situación que les genera un poco de ingresos sin que esto sea obligatorio, al menos no por los guías certificados e identificados por su uniforme y gafete que los acredita, incluso visitantes han dejado en las redes sociales de lo importante que son para las referencias.
