Cozumel Humane Society Covid

Love and a silver lining in the time of Covid

Staying home has been difficult for many of us, especially those who are single and living alone. The isolation and being separated from friends and family can break down the human spirit.  At the Humane Society of Cozumel we unexpectedly saw a dramatic rise in people calling in to foster or inquire about adoptions.

More importantly we also had an increase in daily consults.  Over the last three months we had record numbers of dog and cat owners who had previously never before taken their pets to a veterinarian. This rise in daily consults was a direct result of people spending more time with their pets.  In many cases being their only companion they took better care and began to notice everything from an ear infection to a hernia.  Dogs came in cleaner and more cared for than we have ever seen and we heard story after love story about how they never realized how loving and loyal their dogs were, or how affectionate was their cat. Several of our fosters have already been permanently adopted by their foster family (including my little kitty Fauchi).  We expect pro bono cases to increase as many people are still without work.

Ask your neighbor if they need help providing food for their pet.  Purchase a bag of dog food for someone who needs it.  Drop off food at the Humane Society and we will distribute where needed.  We are trying to avoid anyone from having to abandon their pet.

Please help us maintain our services to the community by volunteering, fostering or making a donation.  Every little bit helps and we need your support now more than ever.  We are 100% committed to serve our island in good times and in bad and we need your help.

On behalf of the BOD and the staff at the Humane Society of Cozumel Island, we want to thank Natalia for her dedication and hard work as our Director of Operations.  Natalia is stepping down as director but will still be involved in smaller operations and will always

have the love for the Cozumel animals in her heart.  Thank you Natalia for all you have done for the islands inhabitants that have no voice.

Are you still doing English AA meetings via Zoom at 6PM CST? I live in Houston Texas but we’re building a condo in Districto Centro Cozumel. I would love to attend one of your on line meetings and hopefully when all this Covid-19 mess over be able to attend your on site meetings.
