Cozumel. – The Fundación de Parques y Museos de Cozumel’s (FPMC, Parks and Museums of Cozumel Foundation) extends an invitation to the community to welcome the canoeists who will be making the Sacred Mayan Crossing from Xcaret to Chankanaab on May 12 and 13. .

 

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa encourages activities that foster rescuing traditions and customs that give identity and reaffirm values of the culture, said the general director of FOMC, José Luis Chacón Méndez.

 

Details of the upcoming event that recreates the pilgrimage made by the ancient Maya to worship goddess Ixchel were revealed. The general director of the FPMC reported that a total of 500 bracelets will be handed out to people interested in going to Chankanaab to welcome and bid farewell the canoeists that will be recreating one of the most important episodes of the Mayan culture.

 

He specified that the bracelets will be available at the main offices of the FPMC on 30th avenue near the corner of Avenue Juárez, adding that the free bracelets will be also distributed among highschoolers, and transportation will be free to encourage interest in this particular segment of the Sacred Mayan Crossing.

 

In closing, he pointed out that canoeists are expected to arrive at Chankanaab Part after 11:30 am in the midst of a great Mayan ceremony featuring goddess Ixchel and hundreds of participants who recreate the Sacred Mayan Crossing among rituals. On May 13, the farewell event will take place at 8:30 am. The bracelet will be good for both days.

 

Travesía Sagrada Maya

Cozumel.- La Fundación de Parques y Museos de Cozumel  (FPMC) invita a la comunidad a recibir a los canoeros  y canoeras que realizarán la Travesía Sagrada Maya de Xcaret a Chankanaab los días 12 y 13 de mayo.

 

La gobernadora Maya Lezama Espinosa, promueve las actividades que contribuyen al rescate de las tradiciones y costumbres que dan identidad y reafirman el valor de la cultura, indicó el director general de la FPMC, José Luis Chacón Méndez.

 

Se dieron a conocer los pormenores de este evento que recrea la peregrinación que hacían los antiguos mayas para adorar a la Diosa Ixchel, el director general de la FPMC, informó que  se entregará un total de  500 brazaletes a las personas interesadas en ir a Chankanaab a recibir y a despedir a los canoeros y canoeras que recrearán uno de los episodios más importantes de la cultura maya.

 

Especificó que la entrega se hará en las oficinas centrales de la institución, ubicadas en la 30 avenida, casi esquina con la avenida Juárez y agregó que  los brazaletes gratuitos  también se distribuirán entre la comunidad estudiantil de nivel bachillerato y se ofrecerá transportación gratuita para propiciar el interés de este segmento en la Travesía Sagrada Maya.

 

Para finalizar, puntualizó que el día 12 de mayo se estima que los canoeros y canoeras arriben al parque Chankanaab después de las 11:30 de la mañana en medio de una gran ceremonia maya protagonizada por la Diosa Ixchel y cientos de participantes que recrean la Travesía Sagrada Maya entre rituales, y el día 13 de mayo la despedida será a las 8:30 de la mañana y el brazalete será válido para los dos días.
