The implementation of this aid collection system is new for the organization, but they have been working for several years to benefit animals on the island:

We sterilized 374 animals in these two campaigns and well we had been doing it all at home with one of the volunteers and now we have this clinic that is going to be our operations center and we are very happy.”
The clinic is exploring the possibility of offering other services, however they are currently focusing on addressing the island’s main need in this area, which is to control and stop the proliferation of homeless pets:
“We are concentrating on sterilizing street dogs and cats. Therefore, what we do is: we go out to find the animals that are wandering, they are captured, they are brought to the facility, the dogs are given a bath, they are sterilized, they are subsequently vaccinated to protect those animals and then After their recovery, which is approximately one night, we release them again where they were found.
This method is called in Spanish, “C E V R” which means, capture, sterilize, vaccinate and return. It is a method that has been used in other countries with excellent results.”

En conferencia de prensa dieron a conocer a medios locales la información general de este servicio. En el evento estuvieron acompañados por miembros de la organización GRATUD. Quienes, a través de su plataforma, gtatud.com, recaudan apoyos en especie que permiten solventar necesidades de diversas causas. En este caso particular, las de KAN Cozumel.

La implementación de este sistema de acopio de ayuda es una novedad para la organización, pero ellos llevan ya varios años trabajando en beneficio de animales de la isla:
“Estamos muy contentos de que recientemente abrimos esta clínica de esterilizaciones, pero ya tenemos alrededor de tres años siendo un grupo de voluntarios que nos hemos dedicado a hacer rescate de perros y gatos.
Hemos hecho varias campañas masivas de esterilización las últimas dos fueron aquí en Cozumel. Esterilizamos 374 animales en estas dos campañas y bueno lo habíamos estado haciendo todo en casa uno de los voluntarios y ahora tenemos esta clínica que va a ser nuestro centro de operaciones y estamos muy contentos.”
La clínica explora la posibilidad de ofrecer otros servicios, sin embargo están enfocándose en estos momentos a atender la principal necesidad de la isla en este tema, la cual es controlar y detener la proliferación de mascotas en situación de calle:
“Nos estamos concentrando en esterilizar perros y gatos de la calle. Por lo tanto, lo que hacemos es: salimos a buscar a los animales que están vagando, se capturan, se traen a las instalaciones, se les da un baño a los perros, se esterilizan, posteriormente se vacunan para proteger a esos animales y después de su recuperación
que es aproximadamente una noche los volvemos a liberar en donde fueron encontrados.
Este método se llama en español, “C E V R” que significa, capturar esterilizar, vacunar y regresar. Es un método que ha sido utilizado en otros países
con excelentes resultados.”
En todo este proceso, la plataforma de acopio digital facilitara mucho las cosas pues de esa forma se garantiza que la ayuda recibida sea la que realmente se necesita y les permite a los voluntarios dedicar más tiempo a labores prácticas.
La lista de requerimientos ya puede revisarse en la plataforma y los apoyos pueden recibirse a partir del 10 de diciembre.
Es importante mencionar que plataforma ayuda a cubrir parte de los requerimientos de esta causa, pero también existen otros gastos operativos que necesitan de recursos como el pago de la renta y servicios como luz y agua. Por ello también invitan a contactar sus redes sociales como Facebook e Instagram donde además podrán ver todo el trabajo que se realiza continuamente.
Por último, se invita a la población a hacer conciencia en estas fechas y no entregar mascotas como regalo de navidad pues es una responsabilidad bastante grande y en muchas ocasiones, estas mascotas terminan abandonadas en la calle:
“Sí, los perros y gatos son una responsabilidad y las responsabilidades no son regalos no
entonces sí, lo ideal es regalar juguetes, peluchitos, no seres vivos que sean una responsabilidad de 15 años.”
