7th Annual 5 K Fun Run to End Polio 2023

Cozumel October 12, 2023.
In recent days, the Rotary Club of Cozumel presented the event called Let’s End Polio at a press conference. Which consists of a 5k race in a free category.
This is an event that has been taking place since 2015 and this is the 7th edition of the race. The event aims to generate a healthy integration activity. It is not a race of competition, but of coexistence.
Juanita Ávila Hernández, president of the Rotary club in Cozumel, speaks to Cozumel 4 you about it:
“Here in Cozumel, 200 people participate every year. The race is on October 21, leaving from the municipal palace and reaching the flagpole.”
In some countries around the world, cases of polio continue to occur. In Mexico the disease has been eradicated:
“Fortunately, polio has been eradicated in Mexico, thanks to the awareness of families.”
“Each ticket costs 200 pesos, each ticket is equivalent to 10 vaccines and everything raised from the sale of tickets is to buy vaccines. It is a totally family race and it is for the health of our children. At Rotary we want to see children healthy, happy and enjoying their childhood.”
The organization of the event is carried out with resources from sponsors, so the donation is completely used in the acquisition of vaccines. At the closing of this note there are still some tickets available and it is very important to remember that not only can you participate by running, but you can also sponsor a runner who does not have the resources to make the donation.
Among the sponsored young people are, for example, members of the labor CAM. They are young people with some disability, for whom the race serves as an activity of integration, recreation and coexistence.
The Rotary Club is also giving talks about polio in public secondary and high schools on the island. This activity aims to raise awareness of the importance of preventing this disease and also of involving young people in social and humanitarian aid activities.
If you are interested in participating, the cost of the kit is 200 pesos, it includes a participation medal, a commemorative t-shirt and you also participate in a gift raffle.

7ma carrera 5k, Acabemos con la polio 2023

En días pasados el club rotario de Cozumel presentó en rueda de prensa el evento denominado Acabemos con la polio. El cual consiste en una carrera 5k en categoría libre.
Este es un evento que se viene realizando desde 2015 y esta es la 7ma edición de la carrera. El evento tiene como finalidad generar una actividad de integración sana. No es una carrera de competencia, sino de convivencia.
Juanita Ávila Hernández, presidenta de club rotario en Cozumel habla a Cozumel 4 usted al respecto:
“Aquí en Cozumel cada año estamos participando 200 personas. La carrera es el 21 de octubre saliendo de palacio municipal y llegando hasta la asta bandera.”
En algunos países del mundo aún se continúan presentando casos de polio. En México se ha erradicado la enfermedad:
“Afortunadamente en México se ha logrado erradicar la polio, gracias a la concientización de las familias”.
“Cada boleto tiene un costo de 200 pesos, cada boleto equivale a 10 vacunas y todo lo que se recaude de la venta de boletos es para comprar vacunas. Es una carrera totalmente familiar y es por la salud de nuestros niños. En Rotary queremos ver niños sanos, felices y disfrutando de su niñez”.
La organización del evento se realiza con recursos provenientes de patrocinadores, por lo que el donativo se utiliza completamente en la adquisición de vacunas. Al cierre de esta nota aún quedan disponibles algunos boletos y es muy importante recordar que no solo se puede participar corriendo, sino que también se puede patrocinar a un corredor que no tenga los recursos para dar el donativo.
Entre los jóvenes patrocinados se encuentran por ejemplo integrantes del CAM laboral. Son jóvenes con alguna discapacidad, para los cuales la carrera les sirve como una actividad de integración, esparcimiento y convivencia.
Club rotario también se encuentra impartiendo pláticas sobre la polio en escuelas secundarias y preparatorias públicas de la isla. Con dicha actividad se pretende concientizar de la importancia de prevenir esta enfermedad y también de involucrar a los jóvenes en actividades de ayuda social y humanitaria.
