October 14^th Partial Solar Eclipse Visible From Cozumel

The next planned solar eclipse that will be visible from Cozumel will take place on October 14, 2023 and will be seen as a  Partial Solar Eclipse, here on the island, although other parts of the state, including the capital, will most likely see an Annular Solar Eclipse.

The Annular Solar Eclipse should start at 9:50 am with the maximum height being 11:30, and should come to an end at 1:14 pm, meaning the entire partial eclipse should last only 3 hours and 25 minutes.

What is an Annular Solar Eclipse?

Annularity, where the Sun forms a ‘ring of fire’ around the Moon, is visible only from a narrow path that crosses the USA, Mexico, Central America, Colombia, and Brazil.

Here in Mexico the annular solar eclipse will be seen in Campeche, The Yucatan and here in Quintana Roo.

While Chetumal is considered the best location in the state to view the eclipse, with 90 percent shade, Cozumel will most likely experience partial shade and a partial solar eclipse.

What Happens During a Partial Solar Eclipse?

Only a part of the Sun will appear to be covered, during a Partial eclipse giving it a crest shape.

During a total or annular solar eclipse, people outside the area covered by the Moon’s inner shadow see a partial solar eclipse, which again, is probably what most residents of Cozumel will see on the 14^th.

El eclipse solar parcial del 14 de octubre será visible desde Cozumel

Este 14 de octubre de 2023 el próximo eclipse solar será visible desde Cozumel y será un eclipse solar parcial aquí en la Isla aunque en otras partes del Estado, incluyendo la capital, es muy probable que verán un eclipse anular del sol.

El eclipse iniciará a las 9:50 am y alcanzará su punto máximo a las 11:30, finalizando a las 13:14 horas, lo que significa que la duración total del eclipse será de sólo 3 horas.   .

¿Qué es un eclipse solar anular?

La anularidad, donde el Sol forma un “anillo de fuego alrededor de la Luna,  sólo es visible en la estrecha trayectoria que cruza los EE. UU., México, Centroamérica, Colombia y Brasil.

En México el eclipse solar anular se verá en Campeche, Yucatán y aquí en Quintana Roo.

Si bien se considera que Chetumal es la mejor ubicación para ver el eclipse, con 90% de sombra, es muy probable que en Cozumel se vea la sombra parcial y un eclipse solar parcial.

¿Qué sucede durante un eclipse solar parcial?

Sólo una parte del Sol parecerá estar cubierta durante el eclipse dándole una forma de cresta.

Durante un eclipse solar total o anular, las personas fuera del área cubierta por la sombra interior de la Luna ven un eclipse solar parcial que, retiramos, es probable que sea percibido de esa manera por la mayoría de los habitantes de Cozumel. Ya veremos qué sucede el día 14.
