2017 Hurricane Season Nears an End

End of November caps off an active hurricane season….

 

The 2017 Hurricane Season officially comes to an end at the end of November.   While Cozumel and the Yucatan Peninsula were spared any significant damage, it can generally be agreed that this season had a destructive component.

Back in April of this year the Tropical Meteorlogy Project from Colorado State University predicted  “2017 Atlantic basin hurricane season will have slightly below-average activity.”

So far this year there have been six major hurricanes including Irma, Harvey and Maria, and a total of 18 depressions.  This season is the only season on record in which three hurricanes each had an ACE of over 40: Irma, Jose, and Maria.

Noviembre cierra una activa temporada de huracanes. . .

La temporada de huracanes del año 2017 concluye oficialmente a fines de Noviembre. En tanto que Cozumel y la Península de Yucatán se vieron libres de todo daño importante, se puede decir de manera general que esta temporada tuvo factores destructivos.

En Abril de este año el Tropical Meteorology Proyect de la Universidad Estatal de Colorado pronosticó “una temporada de huracanes 2017 con una actividad ligeramente menor”.

 

Hasta el momento se tuvieron seis huracanes de mayor tamaño que incluyen a Irma, Harvey y María, y un total de 18 depresiones tropicales. Esta temporada es la única que ha registrado tres huracanes – Irma, Harvey y María-,  con  energía ciclónica acumulada de más de 40 puntos,
