Cozumel Surfing Festival Slated for this Weekend

First Surf Fest kicks off this weekend with different activities…..

This weekend – Friday, Saturday and Sunday – marks the first annual Cozumel Surfing Festival.

The Festival kicks off downtown on Friday at 8 pm, in the Benito Juarez Park, with a Festival of Surf & Rock”  Three “surf-rock”bands will play: Lost Acapulco, Los Cavernarios, and Rikitia Banana.

Saturday morning there will be a beach clean up at Chen Rio. Transportation will be leaving from the “Unidad Deportivo Independencia”  or participants are encouraged to car pool together.  As a special bonus, Nacho Gutierrez, from Cozumel Surfing will be offering FREE surf classes to the first 10 children who show up, with their parents.  Please don’t forget to bring beachwear, sun protection and a towel.

Also on Saturday morning, starting at 10 am is a “Rodada Ciclista”  bicycle race which starts at 10 am, leaving from the Palacio Municipal, with an end goal of Chen Rio.

Additionally there will be a beach volleyball festival, which will also start at Chen Rio starting at 10 am.

The actual surfing competition will start on Saturday at 12:30.  This is an important tournament since it’s on the state-wide level.  Winners of this will go on to compete on a national level with an end-goal of an Olympic slot.  There are several different levels and categories, including juvenile surfers.

Festival de Surf en Cozumel este fin de semana

Este fin de semana inicia el primer festival de surf con diferentes actividades…

Los días viernes, sábado y domingo se celebrará el primer Festival de Surf de Cozumel.

El Festival comienza con un Festival de Surf y Rock el viernes a las 8 p.m. en el parque Benito Juárez con la presentación de tres bandas de surf-rock: Lost Acapulco, Los Cavernarios y Rikitia Banana.

El sábado por la mañana tendrá lugar una limpieza de playa en Chen Río. El transporte saldrá de la Unidad Deportiva Independencia, y se anima a los participantes que compartan vehículos. Un beneficio adicional es que Nacho Gutiérrez de Cozumel Surfing, ofrecerá clases GRATUITAS de surf a los primeros 10 niños que se presenten acompañados de sus padres. Por favor no olviden traer consigo su ropa de playa, protección solar y toalla.

De igual manera, el sábado por la mañana, a partir de las 10 a.m. se llevará a cabo la carrera “Rodada Ciclista” saliendo del Palacio Municipal y la meta es Chen Río.

También en Chen Río y a las 10:00 a.m., el festival de vóleibol playero.

La competencia de surf inicia el sábado a las 12:30. Este es un torneo importante en virtud de ser a nivel estatal. Los ganadores participaran en la competencia nacional con el objeto de obtener un sitio en las Olimpiadas. Hay diferentes niveles y categorías, incluyendo surfers juveniles.

Una ex yanqui de Connecticut quien llama hogar a Cozumel desde hace más de 15 años. Laura escapó al Caribe hace años, desplazándose de una isla a otra dando clases de BUCEO. Se dedicó a perder el tiempo en Jamaica y finalmente se detuvo en Cozumel para pasar unas vacaciones de 2 semanas que aún no terminan. Convenciendo a sus padres que pagaran una elegante universidad privada, obtuvo su título en Periodismo y Laura crea semanalmente Cozumel 4You, medios sociales y artículos promocionales sobre la Isla y también es moderadora en el grupo Cozumel 4 You en Facebook que actualmente cuenta con 25,000 miembros. Fabián, s umuy tolerante marido, desde hace mucho tiempo se resignó a no tener vida privada, pues se ha visto implicado en los diversos proyectos y planes que urde Laura. Son orgullosos padres de diversos perros y gatos rescatados. Mientras contempla su paso a través de la vida en el Caribe mexicano,Laura continúa siendo la pesadilla en la existencia de su muy tradicional suegra mexicana.
