REACTIVATION OF HOUSTON FLIGHTS WITH SOUTHWEST

COZUMEL, March 2021 –  Starting this month and after being cancelled for a year due to the SARS-CoV-2, Southwest will return to Cozumel this Thursday with daily flights from Houston.

The airline’s service was operating since last March seven, 2020, when the formal welcoming event took place. However, it was available only for two weeks because as of March 22 that same year, the service was suspended due to the social restrictions resulting from COVID-19.

One year later, airline executives still have the same drive as last year expecting that the flight’s reactivation will hold 80% occupancy. Airline staff reported that the flight will arrive for the first time this year at 3:00 pm, taking into consideration that the estimated flight time will be two hours, while the return flight will be at 3:55 pm arriving in Houston at 5:25 pm

A 143 seats Boeing 737-700 will be providing the flight services. Flight packages allow two bags at no extra cost in addition to free Wi-Fi and TV, noting that this reactivation will offer daily flights and is expected to be a success.

ON THE TOPIC OF CRUISE SHIPS

In other relevant news, Richard Sasso, president of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) cruise line, recognized the work and efforts made by Pedro Joaquín Delbouis, Mayor of Cozumel, in favor of the community and the economic reactivation.

“Thank you for being a leader and an important supporter of the safe return of cruise ships”, said Richard Sasso.

This after Pedro Joaquín Delbouis had met with Richard Sasso, President of MSC Cruises, one of the leading cruise line companies in the United States, and with whom he addressed important issues such as resuming the economic revival of the destination and the Cozumel Home Port project. The latter, in addition to reactivating cruise ship passenger arrivals, would also trigger overnight stays; this is, tourists could arrive to the Island via ferry or airplane and very possibly would have to stay at least one night.

The Mayor of Cozumel, Pedro Joaquín Delbouis, noted this will boost visitors’ stay, hence would mean greater economic benefits for the Island’s families and residents.

Richard Sasso, President of MSC Cruises, highlighted the importance of a person with great leadership who can adversities as the one faced by Covid-19 global pandemic, such as Pedro Joaquin Delbouis.

“Witnessing firsthand what he has accomplished under the most extraordinary challenges we face, makes clear to me how important is his responsibility towards the community”, said the President of MSC Cruises,

Mediterranean Shipping Company is one of the largest cruise lines in the United States, and Cozumel one of its most important destinations. Its fleet, which has called this port. includes the Seashore, the Seaside, the Opera, the Divina and the Meraviglia.

It is worth mentioning that 2018 saw the arrival of one million 877 thousand 239 tourists by air and sea. By 2019, 9 million 231 thousand tourists arrived. The expected numbers for 2020 were much higher than the previous year thanks to the efforts made with several airlines and tour operators, but due to the Covid-19 arrival only 2 million 300 tourists arrived.

GALO AND “KOFFEE”, DYNAMIC AND ELEGANT DUO IN THE CARNIVAL

“Elegance, magnificence, dedication and passion, are the words that describe Galo Herrera Rodríguez’s love and work for collaborating with his designs in Carnival’s he has participated with; as well as the affection he has for his pet “Koffee” who has become a celebrity and remained undefeated for five years in the pets’ contest.

The stars we speak about in these lines are recognized not just because of the carnival but also for the creativity and kindness Galo Herrera shares with the public when showing his love and dedication to his pet with whom he has kept a 10-year bond since the pet’s adoption.

“Koffee” was born in Chetumal along other five puppies. From the very first moment, 10 years ago, Galo was drawn by the little one and decided to adopt it. Ever since then they became pals sharing travels, joys and have remained together even in sickness. As the owner remembered, during the first year of the puppy’s life he was detected skin cancer, so the owner worked hard to cover the treatments the pet required throughout months and years.

While “Koffee” is not a pure breed, the crossbreed of a Dachshund mother and a mutt father made it possible for the puppies to be of a unique mix. Of the brood, our star is the only survivor, so Galo Herrera and his son, Alejandro Rodriguez, take care of the dog.

Galo Herrera is engaged in crafting Carnival designs focusing on his niece, and even though he recalled that his mom, who died in 2015, instilled in him the interest to take part in different events and contests as she used to dress him up in costumes, ever since then he had the liking for creating costumes and other Carnival accessories.

A year after he returned to live in the Island of the Swallows, the also designer inquired about the call that was made for the pets’ contest. At that moment, his life changed because he recalled that in a derogatory manner a participant asked him: “Are you going to compete with that thing?”. Feeling angry for the offense to his beloved pet, he decided to prove that he could go real far, even with a dog that did not have a “recognized” breed as he deemed that the love with which an animal is raised, treated and cared for is what is needed to succeed.

It was then, in 2016, when his adventure in the contest began as he managed to surprise the panel of judges with the Hindu god Ganesh costume. The Aztec god followed, then Neptune, the god of the sea; Belenus, the fire god; Aldebaran, the knight of the sun, just to mention a few of the costumes with which he has participated. However, he has also been the model of other costumes such as the “Duke of Hastings”, and thus has managed to amaze the audience that cheers him in the competition, as well as the jury who is delighted with the surprises the little Dachshund and mutt mixed breed brings year after year.

From jackets, pants, embroidered shoes, to plumes and the float, these are some accessories that the protagonist of this text together with his owner wears. The go out on stage ready to enjoy and shine, just as the great duo they have become. Galo Herrera usually invests over 10 thousand pesos in each of “Koffee’s” designs, besides the expenses of the costumes he uses to escort his pet on the stage, adding to it the cost of the float the little one is expected to ride on the parade, year after year.

The interviewee assured that the biased act against his pet encouraged him to succeed proving to upper class people that regardless of the condition, when things are made with love the results show. He currently lives with his family formed by his son Alejandro Rodríguez and “Koffee” who, even though he has his own closet, is also a regular and ordinary dog who only wants to sleep, eat his kibbles, go out for a run and enjoy himself.  So, as the owner confided, they hope to have him in their lives for many more years and share more tales.
