2024 Cozumel Kings Queens Carnaval Karina Carrion

Election of Cozumel Carnival 2024’s sovereigns

COZUMEL, February 2024. – The great 150-year celebration of the Cozumel Carnival officially started with the Great Coronation of the King and Queen of the 2024 Carnival, in an unforgettable night graced with the attendance of Island’s royalty from yesteryear.

 

This Carnival celebration, which will conclude on February 14, kicked off with Juanita Alonso Marrufo, mayor of Cozumel, placing the crowns on the heads of the queens of the different categories, as well as of the 2024 emperor, Kenny Villanueva; while Susana del Mar Coral Villanueva, honorary president of the Cozumel Family Integral Development Agency (DIF), placed the royal sash upon each of the sovereigns.

 

As a preamble to the royal ceremony, one by one, the 21 sovereigns came into the Carnival grounds with their pages, wearing their best evening costumes, with bright colors, sequins, glitter, and spectacularly large capes.

Leilanny Aguayo, the children’s queen of Joy, was the first to be crowned. She, in turn, crowed Ian, her king. Then came Luna Camila, the children’s queen, who crowned king Emiliano Villanueva, followed by DIF’s queen Yoli who placed the crown on kind Jorge.

 

Meanwhile, Melany González, the youth’s queen of Joy, crowned Ricardo Perera and the youth’s queen, Valeri Villanueva, placed the crown on Ramón Perera, children’s king. They were followed by the diversity category with Jacky Briceño crowning “Chato Locote, king of Joy, and Rebeca Wonder, queen of diversity, placed the crown on Antonio Vázquez. Emperor Kenny Villanueva was crowned by the mayor.

 

Mayor Juanita Alonso then crowned Jesse Rivero, Fantasy queen, who, in turn, crowned her king Anthony Vicencio; while the queen of Joy, Alessandra Erives. crowned Tony Rivero. And the moment all had been waiting for was the mayor’s crowning of Marisol Magaña, the Carnival’s queen, who placed an amazing crown on Tonio Villanueva Marrufo, the 2024 Cozumel Carnival’s king.

This ceremony, where queens, kings and emperors of yesteryear’s Carnivals attended, including Maria Ofelia Zetina Garcia, queen of a 60s Carnival, the mayor, Juanita Alonso Marrufo, handed the Key to the City to Tonio Marrufo Villanueva, this Carnival’s king who read the Royal Proclamation by which he decreed and ordered in a witty way to each of his other categories’ kings and queens to make an unforgettable party of this century and a half Carnival of Cozumel.

 

The event ended with a performance by Son the Cuba who had the audience dancing as well as all sovereigns who were gathered at the Carnival’s Palace.
