Summer Surfing with “Cozumel Surfing”

COZUMEL, July. – During this upcoming summer break Cozumel will have several options for visitors to have fun. Among these is learning to surf while experiencing an adventure full of adrenaline with Nacho Gutiérrez and Pixán, his peculiar surfer dog, while enjoying the unique landscapes of the Island of the Swallows.

For over three decades spent learning and teaching surfing in the Island, Nacho Gutiérrez has succeeded in that several his students are now independent and have ventured into teaching balance on the board.

Thus, proving there is no selfishness in the story’s main character, but on the contrary, he has devoted his life to share with other locals what he has learned, with the sole purpose to have the experience at sea which, as he describes, is “a singular moment between the sea and oneself.”

The founder of “Cozumel Surfing”, which for several years has been at “El Pescador” restaurant in Chen Río on the eastern side of the Island, is a pioneer of this extreme sport in the municipality. Together with his wife, Katie Jackson, and their two children, they have kept the friendliness with each of the visitors who come looking for an extreme adventure and found it in surfing.

Like other summers, Nacho Gutiérrez and his family have prepared to welcome both national as well as foreign visitors. While being interviewed, Nacho admitted that a few days ago his image went viral on social networks when a photo was made public with Pixán, his dog.

The mutt was rescued several years ago wandering in the streets and his family have him food, care, and love, he said; so surprisingly one afternoon when he went to the eastern side of the Island, he along with his wife and children went into the sea and watched the dog who stayed on the shore. When the owner approached with the surfboard, Nacho reached out with his hand and the mutt climbed onboard always trusting him.

From that moment on, Pixán enjoys the high waves on the eastern side or patiently waits on the board waiting for the best wave to surf along his owner; and this is something he does daily before a tour starts or a briefing is given to the clients that register for Nacho Gutiérrez’s services.

The interviewee confirmed for Cozumel4You that as long as anyone knows how to swim, they can learn how to surf. This has enabled him to have students from a very young age to over 50; and has met people from many countries who do not leave without first taking along a picture with the famous Pixán and Nacho Gutiérrez.

It is worth mentioning that every Saturday, starting at 10:00 am there is a summer course for children and teens, and he emphasized that affordable prices will be kept for locals, whom he urged to have this experience full of adrenaline.

Summer Surfing in Cozumel
