Christmas 2023 Reports of High Occupancy Ratings By Hotel Associations & SEDETTUR
In the last days of 2023 the 20 hotels associated with the Cozumel Island Hotel Association (AHIC) reported an occupancy rate of almost 90% in their 3,123 available rooms
On December 1st the AHIC recorded a daily occupancy of 72.26%, which was the first Christmas weekend and which remained at 77.61% and 73.93% for the 2nd and 3rd of December.
For the second December weekend, which began on the 8th, the percentage of occupied rooms was 77.72 points and rose to 79.25% on the 9th and ended on Sunday the 10th with 74.04%.
For the third weekend that spanned from December 14th to 16th, occupancy rates were 68.91, 72.93 and 74.79%, respectively, detailed the assistant to the largest hotel management of the tourist destination. For the Christmas celebrations from December 22nd to 24th, the occupancy of the day fluctuated between 73.52, 74.97 and 77.02% with the characteristic that on Sunday the 25th, 80.92% of the association’s rooms were occupied.
Data from the Secretary of Tourism of the State of Quintana Roo (Sedetur) indicate that the list of lodging centers on the island is 74 hotels
with a total of 4,952 rooms, according to its weekly report at the end of December 22nd.
The figure does not break down how many rooms belong to the alternative offer of rooms in condominiums, apartments, villas or houses, that of the Lodging Association of the Center of Cozumel headed by Franco González Alcérreca and those of AHIC chaired by Beatriz Tinajero Tarriba.
The latest figure known about the number of rooms that Airbnb manages on the island is around 1,900, a fact that was revealed on September 22nd of this year by the then president of the AHIC, Fernando Beristaín Iturbide.
Franco González mentions that there are 400 rooms in the small hotels that he heads and that they are distributed mainly in the first area of the city. If the almost 5,000 rooms that Sedetur says there are on the island are taken as a basis, 63% of these correspond to the AHIC and 8% to small hotels.

En los últimos días del 2023, los 20 hoteles que conforman la Asociación de Hoteles de la Isla de Cozumel (AHIC) reportaron una ocupación de casi 90% en las 3,123 habitaciones que tienen disponibles.
El 1º de diciembre la AHIC registró una ocupación diaria de 72.26%, que fue el primer fin de semana navideño, y que se mantuvo en 77.61% y 73.93% los días 2 y 3 de diciembre.
Para el segundo fin de semana de diciembre, que comenzó el día 8, el porcentaje de las habitaciones ocupadas era 77.72% y aumentó a 79.25% el día 9, terminando el domingo 10 con 74.04%.
Durante el tercer fin de semana que abarcó del 14 al 16 de diciembre, los índices de ocupación fueron 68.91%, 72.93% y 74.79%, respectivamente, según detalló el asistente de la administración hotelera más grande del destino turístico. Para los festejos del 22 al 24 de diciembre, la ocupación fluctuó entre 73.52%, 74.97% y 77.02% con la característica de que el domingo 25 se ocuparon 80.92% de las habitaciones de los hoteles que conforman la Asociación.
Datos de la Secretaría de Turismo del Estado (Sedetur) indican que la lista de los centros de hospedaje está conformada por 74 hoteles con un total de 4,952 habitaciones, según su reporte semanal al cierre del 22 de diciembre.
La cifra no desglosa cuántas habitaciones pertenecen a la oferta alternativa de habitaciones en condominios, departamentos, villas o casas de la Asociación de Hospedaje del Centro de Cozumel que encabeza Franco González Alcérreca y las de la AHIC que preside Beatriz Tinajero Tarriba.
La última cifra de la que se tiene conocimiento acerca del número de habitaciones que se manejan a través de Airbnb es de alrededor de 1,900, dato que fue dado a conocer el 22 e septiembre de este año por el entonces presidente de la AHIC, Fernando Beristaín Iturbide.
Franco González menciona que entre los pequeños hoteles que él encabeza hay 400 habitaciones, y se encuentran principalmente distribuidas en el primer cuadro de la ciudad. Si se toman como base las casi 5,000 habitaciones que Sedetur menciona que hay en la Isla, 63% de estas corresponden a la AHIC y 8% a los pequeños hoteles.
