Information on the 9^th Annual Bird Festival “Festival de los Aves Isla Cozumel”

Cozumel residents, members of the Cozumel Birding Club and birdwatchers from all over are eagerly anticipating the 9^th “Festival de las Aves Isla Cozumel,” which is scheduled to take place October 20 – 22^nd.

The agenda of activities includes conferences with bird specialists, photo exhibits, a bird first aid workshop, education workshops environmental, and a panel with experts in nature photography and of course birdwatching tours in strategic sites and invite those interested in nature, birds and ecotourism to participate.

The Festival had its beginnings 9 years ago in 2009 in a very small way and only with a few participants in Cozumel who were interested in birds. In February 2014, the Cozumel Birding Club was founded. Later, as the club grew, the  festival was organized and eventually in  2014, the Festival Committee was created, which focuses on promoting the festival and it’s expansion to increase awareness of the amazing nature Cozumel has in the form of both resident and migratory birds.

The “Isla Cozumel Birding Festival” promotes bird watching as a sustainable tourism strategy on the island, and at the same time, is designed to inform and build interest in the vital role birds play in the balance of our ecosystems as well as their impact on life. lugar, esperan ansiosamente el 9º Festival de las Aves de la Isla de Cozumel que tendrá lugar los días 20 y 22 de octubre.

El programa de actividades incluye conferencias con especialistas en aves, exposiciones de fotografías, un taller para primeros auxilios de aves, talleres de educación medioambiental, y un panel de expertos en fotografía de la naturaleza y, por supuesto, excursiones para observar aves en sitios estratégicos e invitación para que participen aquellos que estén interesados en la naturaleza, en las aves y en el ecoturismo.

El festival se inicio hace 9 años, en el año 2009 en una forma muy reducida y sólo con unos cuantos participantes que en Cozumel estaban interesados en las aves. En Febrero de 2014 se fundo el Cozumel Birding Club (Club de Observación de aves de Cozumel.)  Posteriormente, conforme crecía el club, se organizó el festival y para 2014 se crea el Festival de l Comité; éste se centra en promover el festival y su expansión para  mayor difusión sobre la increíble naturaleza de aves que existen en Cozumel, tanto residentes como migratorias.

El Festival de Aves de la Isla de Cozumel promueve la observación de aves como estrategia turística sustentable en la Isla y a la vez está diseñado para informar y crear interés en el papel vital que juegan las aves en el equilibrio e nuestros ecosistemas, así como su impacto en la vida. An ex-Connecticut Yankee who has called Cozumel home for over 18 years, Laura ran away to the Caribbean years ago, bumped around the islands teaching SCUBA diving, lost some time in Jamaica, and finally stopped in Cozumel for a 2 week vacation that hasn’t ended yet. With a degree in Journalism from a fancy private college she convinced her parents to pay for, Laura writes, edits, and creates the weeklyCozumel 4 You news,social media, and promotional articles about the island, as well as moderates the Cozumel 4 You Facebook group, which currently has over 25,000 members. Her long suffering husband, Fabian, has long since resigned himself to having zero private life, as he’s been involved in her various schemes and plots since his arrival. Proud parents to a variety of rescue dogs and cats, Laura continues to be the bane of her traditional Mexican mother-in-law’s existence, as she muses her way through life in the Mexican Caribbean.

Una ex yanqui de Connecticut quien llama hogar a Cozumel desde hace más de 15 años. Laura escapó al Caribe hace años, desplazándose de una isla a otra dando clases de BUCEO. Se dedicó a perder el tiempo en Jamaica y finalmente se detuvo en Cozumel para pasar unas vacaciones de 2 semanas que aún no terminan. Convenciendo a sus padres que pagaran una elegante universidad privada, obtuvo su título en Periodismo y Laura crea semanalmente Cozumel 4You, medios sociales y artículos promocionales sobre la Isla y también es moderadora en el grupo Cozumel 4 You en Facebook que actualmente cuenta con 25,000 miembros. Fabián, s umuy tolerante marido, desde hace mucho tiempo se resignó a no tener vida privada, pues se ha visto implicado en los diversos proyectos y planes que urde Laura. Son orgullosos padres de diversos perros y gatos rescatados. Mientras contempla su paso a través de la vida en el Caribe mexicano,Laura continúa siendo la pesadilla en la existencia de su muy tradicional suegra mexicana.
