Cozumel’s Marine Park Coral Reefs Get a Break

Another response to the pandemic, the Cozumel Port Authority has closed the port (and all of the surrounding areas) to all non-essential marine activity.  While essential services, such as freight ferries, continue to run, Cozumel’s reef systems are off limits.

That means that Cozumel’s Marine Park, “Arrecifes de Cozumel” have had a much needed breather.  While everyone is being encouraged to stay at home, there’s been a lot of speculation on social media platforms, such as Cozumel4You, have hosted discussions as to possible reef conditions after a long hiatus from all marine sports.

There has been no word from the officials at the CONANP as of yet, as to plans to open the popular “El Cielo” location.

There’s also been some discussion as to the possible increase in numbers of the invasive lionfish population during this break.

Please give us an update on the Covid-19 virus in Cozumel. Is everyone social distancing there? Wearing masks? Have all cruise ships stopped?
