Cozumel November 9, 2023 – In recent days, many doubts have arisen caused by the street closures on the main avenue of the island of Cozumel.
On this avenue, work is being carried out to replace drainage, collector and drinking water pipes. The main concerns arise from the apparent delays in the work and the complications that arise from having the road closed to vehicles and the consequent drop in tourists traveling through the area.
In Cozumel 4 you we went to interview the manager of the Drinking Water and Sewage Commission of the island of Cozumel (CAPA), Manuel Gurigutia Barrientos.
This is what he told us about the current situation of the work:
“Well, right now what is 2 north is going to be released back towards 6 north, which is where we would be now. The part of changing the collector and drinking water. In a few more days, that entire area will be freed, and it is even beginning to be paved.
We have made a readjustment to the construction strategy to allow us to move faster. Right now we are already invading the 2 lanes, because before it happened to us that we worked in one lane and left one free so that there is communication access, but that was very complicated for the work. There were many complications. We had to stop for the vehicles to pass, but there were times when we were about to have an accident happen.
People don’t respect, so that sometimes causes us problems, but well, a change in strategy was made there. Both lanes are closed. Now for example, we are at 2 north going back 2, 4, 6, and we finish 8, 10 we release and we are going to start from 2 north to where Juárez is. Well, we are going to start there, after the 15th we will be breaking there, so that we can continue advancing the theme of the work.
We have had complications. Although we have already mentioned them many times. The case of the sinkholes, the case of bad weather, well the work has been delayed a little, but hey, we have been fighting against it and here we go. A few days ago we had a strange sinkhole because it was not where we cut, it was somewhere else where we did not replace, the old pipe remained that we did not move, we left it buried there and we had a small sinkhole that was the result of the intense rains, which caused a landslide. internal.”
Regarding the damage on the outskirts of the “San Miguel” ferry dock, he also told us how work is being done:
“Well, in terms of access to the dock, if you go in the taxi, the taxi enters, leaves the dock for you and then leaves or forms back to wait for the service of the boats that come. Regarding access to people when they come directly to the In particular, the pier is in the San Miguel church. “They are going down there, or it could be on Adolfo Rosado Salas Street.”

Cozumel 9 de noviembre de 2023 – En dias recientes han surgido muchas dudas originadas por los cierres de calles en la principal avenida
de la isla de Cozumel.
En esta avenida se estan llevando a cabo los trabajos de sustutucion de drenaje, colector y tuberias de agua potable. Las principales inquietudes se derivan de los aparentes atrasos en la obra y las complicaicones que se orgiinan al tener cerrada la vialidad a los vehiculos y la consecuente caida de turistas que transitan la zona.
En Cozumel 4 you acudimos a entrevistar al gerente de la Comision de Agua Potable y Alvantarillado de la isla de Cozumel (CAPA), Manuel Gurigutia Barrientos.
Esto fue lo que nos comento sobre la situacion actual de la obra:
“Bueno ahorita ya se va a liberar lo que es el 2 norte para atrás hacia las 6 norte, que es donde estaríamos ahora. La parte del cambio del colector y del agua potable. En unos días más ya se va a liberar toda esa zona, inclusive ya se está empezando a pavimentar.
Hemos hecho un reajuste en la estrategia de construcción para que nos permita avanzar más rápido. Ahorita ya estamos invadiendo los 2 carriles, porque antes nos pasaba es que trabajamos en un carril y dejamos uno libre para que haya acceso de comunicación, pero eso era muy complicado para la obra. Había muchas complicaciones. Habia que parar para que pasen los vehículos, pero había momentos en que estamos a punto de que suceda un accidente.
La gente no respeta, entonces, eso a veces nos ocasiona problemas, pero bueno se hizo ahí un cambio de estrategia. Se cierran los dos carriles. Ahora por ejemplo, estamos en las 2 norte para atrás 2, 4, 6, y terminamos 8, 10 liberamos y vamos a iniciar de la 2 norte hasta donde está la Juárez. Bueno, ahí vamos a empezar, después del día 15 estaremos rompiendo allí, para que podamos seguir avanzando el tema de la obra.
Hemos tenido complicaciones. Aunque ya las hemos mencionado muchas veces. El caso de los socavones, la del mal tiempo, bueno se nos ha retrasado un poco la obra, pero bueno, hemos estado luchando contra ello y ahí vamos. Hace unos días tuvimos un socavón raro porque no fue donde cortamos fue en otro lado donde no sustituimos, se quedó la tubería antigua que no la movimos la dejamos ahi enterrada y tuvimos un pequeño socavón que fue producto de de las lluvias intensas se origino un deslave interno.”
Sobre las afectaciones en las afueras del muelle de ferrys “San Miguel” tambien nos ocmento cual es la forma en la que se esta trabajando:
“Bueno, en cuestión del acceso al muelle, si vas en el taxi, el taxi entra te dejan el muelle y y ya sale o se forma atrás para esperar el servicio de de los barcos que vienen.Al acceso a la gente cuando viene directo al muelle de manera particular es en la iglesia San Miguel. Allí están bajando, o puede ser en la Calle Adolfo Rosado Salas.”
Con la finalidad de avanzar mas rapido con las obras se esta trabajando tambien en turnos dobles.
“Así es, te comentaba, que hubo una estrategia que tengo que volver a pensar, en
cómo podíamos avanzar más rápido. Una de ellas es que teníamos que tener un turno a la noche, que ya se está está funcionando y está dejándonos buenos resultados”
